Is there any difference between 3D Games and Movies?

“There’s something that 3D gives to the picture that takes you into another land and you stay there and it’s a good place to be…
It’s like seeing a moving sculpture of the actor, and it’s almost like a combination of theatre and film and it immerses you in the story more. I saw audiences care about the people more.” Says Martin Scorcese (Goodfellas, Hugo).
3D Modelling is the best way to transform the real world into virtual using the appropriate softwares, techniques and characters.Though, the techniques and processes of carving 3D Modeling for games and movies resembles, yet they differ in many ways and too have limitations. Don’t think so?? This blog will let you know in what ways 3D Modelling differs for games and movies.
What is the difference between the two?
Movies
3d Modelling for movies is quite straight forward in its approach. Models are made at whatever level of point of interest has been chosen is required. Modeling characters for film speaks the truth discovering the equalization of creation rate and nature of picture that it will produce. A 3D modeller may utilize any type of modelling systems, be it spline modeling, NURBs modeling or high poly sculpted meshes. A 3D modeller’s employment in film is to assemble models and commonly that is their just obligation. They don’t need to compose the model in light of the fact which ultimately is taken care of by a surface craftsman. In short the only limitation set on how things are created for films are the standard three elements for any venture; Time or the speed it should be done and requirement of high quality.

Games
Unlike 3D Movies, the approach for 3D Games is not easy. The modelling of characters depends on the hardware and the engine of the gaming devices. In past recent years, apart from video games, many new gaming devices such as Play Stations, XBox One, Game Stick, Razer Edge Pro and Razer Blade Pro have sparkled the world of games from all the corners. Though, these devices have a boom yet the graphics of the games have low quality. While modelling gaming characters, a polygon of the graphics is the biggest point to ponder on. Rather than utilizing more of polygons in rendering a character, level of detail (LOD) is used. To give quality effect, the artists spend more time in texturing and detailing the players of the game. But, now a day, as the technology is paving its way towards advancement, gaming devices is leaving no stones unturned to enhance the engines and hardware for HD quality representation of graphics.
Let’s take an example to get into detail.
When it comes to movies, we think of the animated features of the Avengers – The Age of Ultron , these characters are created without having any limitation of polygons. The only constraint affecting in making movie characters is time, as they have to meet their deadlines.

This means, for movies, a good quality and high revolutionary models are created counting on time and budget.
Whereas, in games more than one characters are rendered and perform some action consuming the energy of the processor at a same time. So, to manage the constant frame rate throughout is tough and leads to pause in the functioning of engine and hardware. That is the reason, the 3D models are created at a level not burdening on the capacity of the game engine.

Thus, it’s always a fun in modeling game characters rather than movie characters, though the models are bound by a lot of restrictions because it is a challenging task and you come up with best possible notions to limit the use of polygons and count more on detailing the characters
